The Summer Effect: Happy July

I'm afraid I'm not much of a contributor as I was quite unable to cover for Constantinos these last two months. As per usual, May and June were quite hectic at the school as I had to organise final reviews, prepare final exam papers, mark them and issue end-of-year reports. But now it's the time to forget about work, at least for the next two months.
July is here with all the happy connotations of sun, sea, sand and , generally, a brighter mood. Since the end of June, I've been under the Summer effect doing things I haven't done in a long time such as water sports, spending time on the beach, tidying up my flat, my computer and my electronic home on TypePad or reading some unread books they had piled up.
July also marks the beginning of the sales which started earlier this year, probably because of the financial crisis. I haven't had time to go to the shops yet as the beach which is only 4km from home is much more alluring than a shopping spree. Yet, while lying on the beach the other day, I had time to look through the British issue of Harper's Bazaar. I love the new summer trends like the bright colours and patterns, the sophisticated swimwear or the long floral sun dresses.
July is probably the ideal time of year to spend a few days on a greek island where you can bask in the sun contemplating the infinite blue of the greek seas and feeling a world away from everything. Greece and the Greek Isles have always been my most favourite holiday destination and I have often fallen under their magic spell.
Have you ever been to the Greek islands? If not would you like to spend a holiday there? Which island would you choose and why? Can't wait to hear your views and - why not - your holiday experiences.

Hi Anastasia. School is over for this year so I have more free time now but I still working on my paintings for a new exhibition in October. I have visit the greek islands a few years ago and been to Corfu,Zante and Santorini. I like them all but Corfu most because the people are so friendly and there is so much green everywhere. Also the beach is great! Now I want to go to Skiathos and Creta for which I heard so much. Have a great summer.

I really can't remember to how many greek islands I have been so far. Maybe 20 or 30. For me the ideal summer vacation is in the greek islands. I love the deep blue sea, the sandy beaches, the clear waters...and many more. My favorite islands where I keep going back are Folegandros, Paros and Naxos - especially Naxos where I have also made some great friends.

No, I've never been to a greek island but I'd love to afford such a dream holiday one day. Take good care of yourself, Anastasia, and enjoy your summer holiday.

I've only been to Greece once - in Athens. But while there we spent a weekend in Hydra - an island I fell in love with. The people are real friendly and I sure loved the horse ride!

I haven't been to many greek islands - just Corfu, Mykonos and Santorini. In the summer I prefer to travel to more exotic or far-away places. My most exciting holiday experience was in Brazil a few years ago. We stayed at a small hotel near Copacabana and its amazing beach. But I was also impressed with the falls of Niagara when I visited the USA and Canada 2 years ago.

Anastasia, I think that you are a great contributor and would like to thank you for all your time and effort you have put in this blog. Now about the Greek islands. In Greece there are 6000 islands not counting the islets and I have visited a lot of them. I love Cyclades most so my favourite island which I always visit in the summer is Sifnos because it's less noisy and less touristy than other islands such as Mykonos, Skiathos or Santorini but mainly because of its great beaches and the beauty of the Cycladic villages you can find in Sifnos.
