Modern Technology

Technology has always been an important part of life since the 19th century industrial revolution. Through the years these advances grew until we got to the most important piece of technology in today's society, the computer. Computers are present in every area of our lives. They help save lives in the medical field, they have connected the world turning it into a global village. Our economy depends on computers, cash registers, banks, the stock market. These are things that people in the past could not even dream of. Five years ago, I couldn't even imagine using my mobile phone like a computer or having an ipod instead of a walkman or having an interactive whiteboard in my classroom! The advances of modern technology have definitely transformed my life a lot, mostly in a positive way. To what extent has modern technology affected your lives in , let's say the last 10 years?

Technology has affected my life a lot for sure, especially computers. They have made my life at my work much more easier. Also the computer is a great form of entertainment at home. There are so many social forums now that you can meet new people and make friends more easy.

Computers and the internet have completely changed my life in the last 10 years or so. I started surfing the net 11 years ago on Windows 98. Since then there has been a real breakthrough in IT technology. Not to mention the advances in the Internet speed and the wide choice of browsers. I now work as a translator on translatum.gr which means a better job, a better pay, better living conditions. Email services have also greatly been improved with more sophisticated spam filters. Also the recent advances in IT tech help save our environment because paperwork is very limited. The less paper we use and the better our environment will be. And there's more to come in the next 10 years!

Surely, it's affected my life a lot mostly at work. I remember 10 years ago when I got my first job at the bank the endless queus of people waiting to have our services. Now the queus are shorter thanks to ebank services. And this is only one of the many ways that computers have made my life at work much easier.

*** Same here Olga. I strongly feel that computers have made our lives much easier - both at work and at home. I've also made great friends online, mostly on Yahoo but I'm so glad to meet them again on Facebook!

*** Christina, despite the...side effects, IT technology has certainly changed our lives radically. For instance, the more I use my interactive whiteboard the more I like it!

*** Stefania mou, I've only just started using ebank and I am thrilled! No more queues!

Well, I really don't think technology has changed my life much over the last 10 years. Surely computers are useful at work, yet I wouldn't say they are my favourite form of entertainment. I also prefer sending letters to my friends and I am so glad you write back, Anastasia. Few people use the post office nowadays to keep in touch with friends.

Dating a girl is just like writing software. Everything's going to work just fine in the testing lab (dating), but as soon as you have contract with a customer (marriage), then your program (life) is going to be facing new situations you never expected. You'll be forced to patch the code (admit you're wrong) and then the code (wife) will just end up all bloated and unmaintainable in the end!LOL! I like computers but I wont allow them to affect my life.

I can say that the progress in modern technology has changed my life a lot. I also use the interactive whiteboard and I find that my students are more motivated even the ones who are not so good in art. Modern technology help them to become more confident and more creative. But I also use the internet to talk to my friends who live far away from me, save time by doing shopping online, promote my work through blogs, organize my portfolio in minutes, book hotels and air tickets when I travel with only one click and so many other things that would need so much time to do 10 years ago. So I save more time for myself and my family.

The advances in IT technology have certainly changed everyone's life!To a lesser or a greater degree. However, there is use, misuse and abuse. Depending on our choices, the computer can be a great way to improve our lives or a tool which will destroy them. Great blog, sugar!

I don't use the computer too much at home but at work is my number one tool!

Some jobs have now become so easy that we almost take for granted how they used to get done. Computers can add numbers in a matter of seconds for large amounts of data.organizations can hire employees all over the world and keep tabs on their work. The rules have all changed because of computers.People who never were able to get out and meet new people can now do so online. Computers have made this easy for these people, especially in the last 10 years with the improvement of social platforms.
Personal finance has also changed. People can now keep an eagle eye on their finances through the use of software such as quicken. Many things that people had to do with pen and paper can now be done with computers. Writers for example can write complete books and email them to their editors. More importantly people's lives have changed and have become more productive with the use of computers. And so has mine especially with recent advances such as the internet speed, the i-phone, a greater choice of browsers etc

Technology is running fast!

Right Phivos. Technology is running fast and although I'm not computer literate, I do my best to move with the times.Use, misuse and abuse...That's very wise, Laki mou. I have been harassed online, my account on the old Yahoo360 was hacked and I've only just realised that some people are using some photos of mine on Facebook which I can't see but I can read the comments! Will that scare me away from the Net? No, it won't! On the other hand, yes, I still enjoy writing letters on fancy paper. Sand dune, it's a real pleasure to read your letters and I do enjoy my rides to the post office.

I think that the computer is certainly the most beneficial piece of technology in my life. Being able to gather information so easily has been wonderous. I am pretty sure that I was able to figure out my son's celiac disease just by having the information available to me. My computer has connected me to 1000's of amazing people who inspire me and get me thinking and writing and talking. It is something that I could never imagining living without :)

I definitely share your views, Heather. I also couldn't live without my computer - certainly not at work as I save everything there: my students'files, my mark schemes, my lesson planning etc. Like you, thanks to the computer and the Internet I have met wonderful people from all over the world. We talk, we write to each other, we blog, we comment, we exchange views and ideas. The computer has certainly broadened my horizons.
